Of late, OTT platforms have garnered love like never before. With the spread of the pandemic and cinema halls being shut across the country, people have easily moved onto adopting the trend of OTT platforms, which was already popular in the West. As a streaming service that is facilitated by the internet, it is giving a tough competition to cable TV. Filmmakers and artists are now finally seeing beyond the silver screen and realizing the potential of growth that OTT holds and is likely to showcase in the coming years.
The Disney+Hotstar partnership has been the talk of the town for quite a while now, and here is a sneak-peak into the best series that you can watch here:
1. Criminal Justice
Following the plot of HBO’s The Night Of, this thriller series is star-studded by names such as Jackie Shroff, Pankaj Tripathi and Vikrant Massey. The series follows the life of a cab-driver who spends one night with a passenger, and shockingly wakes up covered in her blood. The murder is obviously pinned on him until his lawyer (Pankaj Tripathi) takes up the mission to acquit him of all charges.

Excellent dialogue delivery, great cinematography and an exciting plot make this unmissable.
2. Aarya
When Aarya’s family falls apart after the sudden murder of her husband, a web of deceit, drugs and lies unfurls in front of her. Trust is a forgotten value in a family that rests on rigorous hate and misery, and yet Aarya has to make strong choices to protect herself and her kids. This nine part series is a thriller that will leave you at the edge of your seat with every episode.
Stellar performances by Sushmita Sen, Chandrachurna Singh and Namit Das add to the charm of the excellent story line.
3. Hostages
Starring Tisca CHopra, Ronit Roy, Mohan Kapoor and Aashim Gulati, Hostages talks about a doctor whose family is taken hostage right before she is scheduled to operate on a powerful politician. Season 2 is another blast that you cannot miss. As always, Ronit Roy outdoes himself with this strong acting. The plot is smartly written and fast, and trust me when I say you’ll be left scratching your head if 100% of your attention is not here!
4. Hundred
Lara Dutta and Rinku Rajguru pair up to make this action comedy a huge success. The 8 episodes of the series follow the life of an ordinary government employee Netra, who finds out she has only 100 days to live. As fate would have it, she meets a dynamic police officer Saumya who encourages her to make the most of her life (or what’s left of it) by becoming an undercover agent for her.
Comedy ensues when the duo decides to take control of their lives by realizing their full potential, as individuals. Light-hearted yet action packed, Hundred is the perfect series with a simple story and outstanding acting.
5. Special Ops
The plot revolves around a RAW agent who believes that one single mastermind has initiated a series of terror attacks. Brilliantly portrayed by Kay Kay Menon, this espionage thriller series talks about how he selected and trained special officers to bring down the masterminds behind some of the deadliest attacks in India and around the world. Written by incorporating minuscule detailing and amazing dialogues, Special Ops should be on your list if you are into the genre. Kay Kay Menon carries the series solely on his shoulders, and keeps the audience hooked to their screens throughout the eight episodes.

6. City of Dreams
City of Dreams, directed by Iqbal-famed Nagesh Kuknoor, explores a seamless intersection of multiple lives after an established Mumbai-based politician is attacked days before a major political rally. With an ensemble cast featuring Atul Kulkarni, Priya Bapat, Eijaz Khan, and Sachin Pilgaonkar to name a few- it truly offers a fresh take on politics that is largely familiar in our society. This 10-episode crime thriller can be a good watch if you want to understand the soul of Mumbai adorned with people’s dreams.
7. Sarabhai vs Sarabhai
India’s original sitcom Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, changed the scenario with its comedy of errors and satire on upper middle-class Indian families. In the era of histrionic tele soaps and slap-stick humor, this show resonated with people of all ages. Be it Dushyant’s “I’ll explain” or Rosech’s “Momma”, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai gave a new front of Indian soaps that was never seen before. Oh yes, how can we forget those constant sarcastic and locked horns comments between Maya and Manisha!
A star-cast that is still remembered fondly by the Indian audiences, Satish Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Sumeet Raghavan, Rupali Ganguly and Rajesh Kumar managed to create a place for themselves on the screen as well as in our hearts.
8. Out of Love
An emotional roller-coaster, Out of Love is the story of the lives of Aakash and Meera, who are a happily married couple until the day Meera starts suspecting that her husband is having an affair. As Meera’s obsession to finding out the ‘mistress’ grows, she confides in a friend who advises her to carry on normally while looking for substantial evidence.
The show follows Meera who frantically yet smartly finds out about Alia, the woman with whom her husband is having an affair. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s direction coupled with the beautiful performances of Rasika Duggal and Purab Kohli weave the story of lies, infidelity and heartbreak.
That’s a wrap for the day!
