Hair fall Treatment By Ayurveda

When dealing with hair loss, resorting to Ayurvedic remedies proves to be quite effective and safe, compared to conventional hair loss treatments.

Hair fall is probably the most common problem irrespective of gender in today’s world. People have been trying all sorts of medication and home remedies to reduce or prevent hair fall.

One can assuredly say most of them don’t work at all or don’t work for long. The reason for the failure of most hair fall remedies is the lack of understanding of the underlying cause of hair fall which may differ in each person.

To find the right solution for your hair fall problems, you need to figure out why it happens in the first place.

Causes of Hairfall

Causes of Hairfall

In men, the main cause of hair fall is usually the male pattern baldness that is geneticr hormonal or stress-related.

The hormonal excess in males may lead to the weakening of hair follicles which in turn leads to thin hair and then ultimately hair fall. The same can happen in females, although only in rare cases.

Environmental reasons such as continuous exposure to dust and grime can also lead to a build-up of dirt in the hair follicles.

Complete hair loss does not happen due to one single reason. However, one of the above causes is also coupled with general health conditions such as anaemia or thyroid issues can lead to it.

Ayurvedic remedies for anaemia and thyroid like Draksharishtam and Varunadi kwath respectively help a great deal not just with these conditions but also with hair fall.

Stress & Hair Fall

Stress & Hair Fall

Mental stress has become the most widespread and common cause of hairfall among today’s generation in addition to being a reason for rapid hairfall in people suffering from other underlying factors such as poor nutrition and improper care.

Stress and anxiety cause the hair follicles to move into the resting phase of the hair growth cycle. The hair follicles do not receive the required nutrition and thin out.

It causes the hair to fall out more during daily activities like washing or brushing your hair even while sleeping.

People under stress also acquire the habit of pulling their hair frequently. It weakens it at the base and increases hair fall.

Alopecia Areata is a genetic condition which causes one’s own immune system to act against the hair follicles. There will be bald spots or thinning of hair in specific areas.

The condition is not permanent as the hair in the affected regions may grow and fall repeatedly before it becomes a fixed state.

In this article, we are going to discuss more Ayurvedic tips to manage hair fall.

How does Ayurveda explain Hair fall?

How does Ayurveda explain Hair fall

Ayurveda bases its treatment for hair fall on the balance of all the doshas. The imbalances are seen as symptoms of other underlying health conditions.

The health of hair and its follicles depends on the health of other body organs and systems like the digestive system, nervous system, bones, teeth, etc.

Instead of treating the symptoms, Ayurveda believes in treating the body as a whole even for cases of hair fall.

Doshas that affect hair health

Doshas that affect hair health

Vata dosha causes dryness of hair. It also causes dandruff, frizziness, thinning, split ends, etc. Shiro abhyanga or head oil massage is the advised treatment for this.

It can be done once or twice a week which will nourish your hair along with the scalp.

The oil used is Neelibringadi Keram which has very important and strong herbs that keep the hair nourished.

Coconut oil and Kesini oil are other recommended home remedies for frizziness and dry scalp.

Pitta dosha is known to cause premature ageing, greying and bald spots due to the heat that gets accumulated in the body.

Neelibringadi Keram oil can be quite helpful in getting rid of the symptoms that appear in people suffering from pitta dosha Massaging this oil cools down the head and reduces body heat. It also reduces the greying and thinning of hair.

Contrarily, Kapha dosha increases oil secretion in the scalp, leading to greasiness. The stickiness not only makes it difficult to manage hair but also results in the accumulation of dirt on the scalp.

An Ayurvedic hair pack recipe, the Shirolepa can help with this problem. It is prepared by soaking fenugreek seeds in rice water overnight which is ground and applied to the scalp. It can be washed off the hair after 30 minutes.

Another alternative for scalp greasiness is a mixture of besan, coconut water with lemon juice squeezed into it. A paste made of besan, amla juice, reetha and shikakai also works wonders on oily scalps, when applied on a bimonthly basis.

Washing hair regularly with a mild and medicated shampoo also is recommended to manage the stickiness.

A lot of us might think that the cause of dandruff is dry scalp. But truly the oiliness caused due to increase in the kapha dosha is what more commonly causes dandruff.

Some herbal cleansers also work on kapha hair and do not have the same adverse ingredients that are included in chemical shampoos.
